The Cake Thief

Zuue Htike is a Freelance Artist, illustrator and Artistic Director. She graduated from the University of Computer Studies Yangon. She personally loves traditional Medium though she works on animation movies. Her first short animation film “The Darkness” was selected in Human Right International Film Festival, Yangon 2015. Her second short animation film “Pa Lok Tok – Burmese Traditional doll” at 2017 wathan Film Festival Myanmar went to some international children film festivals. She writes her own children’s stories and founded her stories page of “Burmese Bedtime Stories” and children supernatural comic Series “Dane” too.Now, she is working on a children education application with Zenith Education Company of Singapore. “The Cake Thief” is her third animation short film project.

Logline : Funny Little boy Thar Du and naughty cat Pay Tue Sein enjoy daily works and growth together as Monastic children. Will they share each other after monastery have a big, delicious cake as alms?

Director’s statement : I stopped my own animation series production within pandemic. The origin of the story based on daily life of Myanmar monastic students. It is also a culture within Myanmar children cause most Myanmar villages still depend on monastic education until 21st century. Monastic children are not look like normal children, they learn manners and religious prayers from Monks. Their daily routines fill with cleaning, alarm round and help in cooking “Hinn Boung (combine curry breakfast that you can see only in monasteries)”. I want to share the cultural knowledges to our new modernize generation by my stories. Eventually, the cake thief will tell the value of sharing, love, merit and ethic by mixing funny characters of humor via Myanmar cultural tale and Animation Medium. At the other hand It will be a small temporary world for thou-sands of Myanmar children to cure nightmares of coup and give a time of laughing.
