San Yae Aye (born in 1995 in Pyu, Bago, Myanmar) started her film career in documentary filmmaking in 2015 as an intern at Tagu Films. In 2016, she attended the Film and Society workshop hosted by FAMU university from Czech Republic and Wathann Film Institute of Myanmar. The workshop introduced her to fiction.
Since then, she uses both fiction and documentary to tell stories.
San Yae Aye has been working as an editor, producer, and assistant director in Tagu Films. She has also collaborated with other fellow filmmakers in creating short films and documentaries. In 2017, she was the assistant editor of a film magazine called 3-Act. Her most notable work is as a producer for “Sick” by Zaw Bo Bo Hein which won the best director award at the SGIFF and as an editor and producer for “The Act of Kissing” for the omnibus film Ten Years, Myanmar. Her latest short film project “All is Smoke In The End” as a director was selected in Purin Pictures’s Short Film Camp 2023 and awarded as a Runner-up project which received an invitation to Platform Busan, 2024.
